If Vista:4, 7:?

Sounds confusing? I can never be more confusing than any of the windows OS editions.
A good take to predict the Window’s 7 editions. I would not be surprised if it truly turned true :)

Fire Eagle eyes you now ..

October 14th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in yahoo

Yahoo has finally launched what it terms as its “Location Switchboard”, Fire Eagle. Good thing is you don’t need any invitation and it is open for all, just sign up.

Jeannie Yang, the project manager, describes Fire Eagle as

Fire Eagle is about helping you take your location to the Web and giving you control over how, when and with what your location is shared. You choose which applications can share and update your location. You choose how much information you want to share – from as broad as country or state, to as detailed as zip code or cross streets, and everything in between. You choose when and how to update your location.

First impression says its a pretty good application developed with a simple aim of sharing your location with whosoever  you want. You can update the location through various updater applications like My Loki or a J2ME Mobile Updater. Once updated, you can share your location using an array of applications made available. Check out the Application Gallery once you sign up for the service.

It uses Yahoo Maps to display you location. Just one point. It could hardly track me to the street level, best it did was to track me to the city. So a lot to come for users outside US probably. Anyways another interesting service in yahoo’s ever growing service stack.

Select your Search Results Size in Google Search

October 13th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in google, search

Searching along the web i came across a feature in google search. Google is now allowing the user to select the level of details in the search result. The sizes are quite similar to a shirt size like “S”, “M” and “L” with default being M.

Interesting feature indeed. The “L” option can surely reduce few clicks from the search results page.

Default Medium Selected

Large will surely reduce few clicks

Though small is really of any use as it just provides the urls. The only use i can see for this is when you know where you want to land, but just want to make sure you reach proper url. Google is the way out.

But am just loving the large (”L”) feature. It just provides me an insight if really the link holds what i am looking for. Just think it should allow you to choose what should me default. That would surely be great. Anyways a pretty useful feature Google. Finally :)

Update: It seems the feature is under test. Google has suddenly stopped providing me the “S”, “M” and “L” option. Common Google. Bring on the “L” button please.
