Journey to a self-hosted blog …

August 12th, 2008 | View Comments

Finally i succeed. I have been working on this site for around a month now. I, though, had finalized my contents quite a long time back. But it was because of my random vibes, i could never really convince my mind for a dedicated hosted weblog. But finally…  Though am not sure is it a simple blog or a ‘blogsite‘?

Anyways this the first draft of the site i had in my mind for myself. I will note few points which, according to me, really heighten the user experience levels. It was all as a result of hours of skiing along the web and the constant feedback to myself of my experience as a user. So let me begin ..

  1. More space for the actual content on the page
  2. Clear separators between two posts
  3. Easy on eyes font family and sizes
  4. Non-disturbing ads
  5. At hand list of recent post and comments
  6. No bulky colors
  7. Easily accessible links and catchy titles
  8. A consistency in the overall site

I have thrived to please most of my expectations. Anyways i will, for now, not talk about my real journey right from ‘Blogger’, where it all started, to ‘WordPress.com’, where it all beautified, to ‘WordPress.org’, but just the final phase. The final shift, for me, was never a real pain in … uhh… head. And it shouldn’t be for anyone either. Only thing it requires is more of interest for designing and blogging.

So it all started, once on a frustrated day, with research on the preprocess. Had to earn my domain name ‘elatedamit‘ which i did. Bought the domain at rediff. Few pitfalls, never ever search for the domain you are planning to buy. Especially never on GoDaddy. The reason being various sites internally use GoDaddy for booking domains and, due to some random problem with their coding i guess, they are under impression you bought the domain even if you haven’t. Best example, Google Apps.

Moved to the host part. This was the most reasearched topic by me. I compared rates, providings, user experiences, expert comments and even overall look and speed of the hosting site itself. I really could not single out the best hosting site. Various people said, it depends on requirement. I feel the only thing it depends on is your luck. Choose, depending on how much you can spend, the best appearing host and leave it to luck. Hope that you won’t face any problem.

Roamed and jumped from Dreamhost to Bluehost to eWebGuru. But finally i stumbled upon Lunarpages based on the cost to feature analysis. I have hosted my blog with lunarpages for around a month now. I haven’t faced any issues of downtimes or slow responses yet. One valuable and important suggestion. Never complete the process right at the first time. Let them know you are interested. A guareented bargaining is about to happen.

Once your domain and hosts are connected, what remains to do is limitless. Remove your age-old thinking cap. Upsurge your creativity buds and dive in the vast sea of designing ‘blogsites‘. There is lots to learn and bit to earn too.

PS: Do let me know your views on the overall experience of the site. Let me confirm if  i am normal or has randomness caught my mind too :)

Mysterious Me…

June 18th, 2008 | View Comments

The title does sound, atleast for me, a bit self-boasting one. I dunno about others for whom ‘being mysterious’ may quite well turn out to be ‘yuck’ish. (I know even my use of words sometimes is mysterious. You would surely have, if you have roamed round this blogosphere enough, come across many.)

Anyway mysteries has always kept on the edge of my seat. I have cherished even the worst of the mystery movies ever made. I even have a darn respect (!!!) for the makers of few of the movies, whose reason for existence itself was a mystery. Same goes for books or for TV shows. But more than anything else, what turn me on are the mysterious real life experiences. I have spend lots of my network bandwidth digging through the news stories about however foolish but mysterious incidences that happen around us. And it was this interest of mine that led to the existence of another blog of mine. Realm of Mysteries

Along the journey there, I will keep on jotting few mysteries i, over the net, bump into. The stories may not be fully inclusive of all details as I have no intention to ‘wikipedia’ize the blog. Though they surely will provide required links for fully understanding them.

Let the journey begin …

Earn security, but at a price…

February 14th, 2008 | View Comments
Just after a striking connection between “Security and Privacy“, here’s another great image depicting what security really asks for. True you are secure, but what needs to digged is the cost that security comes at. To put it simply:
“Burn Entirety, Earn Security”

Security and Privacy!!!

January 29th, 2008 | View Comments

Just found this amazing image depicting how security and privacy are inter-related in todays web-world. I guess its pretty simple.

“You won your security. But they own your privacy”

Update: Apologies to all those who indeed saw quite a supposedly “private” image here. All thanks to the dynamic image whose contents were “weirdly” played with. Now that was quite an experience, something worth learning from.

My experiment with "Yahoo!! Pipes"

January 16th, 2008 | View Comments
RSS feeds has wildly captured my imagination recently, which was bound to happen thanks to my new born hobby of wwilfying. I started to spend my airtel broadband completely to subscribe and unsubscribe from various different feeds. Now that i feel i have quite an interesting collection of RSS feeds from various sources, i thought lets share the same. But the problem that raised its all time jumping head as to how i should do that. Sharing my feed XML was too kinky a process with another shortcoming of limited reach. So started my experiments on web …

In came Yahoo Pipes. Quite a nice way to ‘single’fy feeds from various different sources. A simple and intuitive user interface with various interesting options to merge/filter the feeds. This post is not to explain why and how i did this experiment with Yahoo pipes. But is to provide with two output feeds i created using it.

Both the feeds do provide quite an interesting collection. Do give it a try. By the way enough of this infoblogging. Should quickly get into my ‘funonomics’ version of my blog.

Laugh Monkey Laugh…

November 28th, 2007 | View Comments
Give me a strip of laughter dose please.”
happy sorry
I know i do blabber pretty brainless sometimes. But then thats what comes to my mind whenever they yell “Laughter is the best medicine”. So if thats the case, why pretend that its not sold in the medical stores? It is indeed sold by a lot of agents, with political leaders leading the race followed by the so called “Blah-Blah Rights Protection” buffs. Anyways thats not the purpose of this post’s existence (Hmmm … Interesting!!). Why this post lie here has its own insight.

Along my stroll down the web’s spider lane, I came across an article “10 Benefits of Laughter, and How to Use It“. Triggered my weird thoughts. As each point scanned under my eyes, my mind blogged through the idiotic wanderings. “Why”‘s and “What if”‘s started cracking under my skull. And the only way to abate that was to pen it down. So here goes the autopsy….

Imagine a comment from a person something like “Buddy, i finally reduced the level of cortisol, epinephrine, adrenaline and dopamine man. Been long since i laughed.” I mean may be thats true, but is there any need to know that? How does that matter which ‘-ol’ or ‘-ine’ i reduce. Really makes me think why do these dudes have to break down something simple like “Stress level” to all these ‘-ine’s. Put it simple yaar. “Laughter reduces stress level” and one doesn’t require any scientist to tell him that. Its instinctive.

Plus they say laughter is a great workout. Okie, point taken. So from tomorrow onwards i will go to gym and break into a huge roar of laughter. Being highly contagious as they say, it won’t take long to spread all through the company. Now come the two threads from Butterfly effect which my life can take.

  • It instills the positive mind frame in all the employees. And similarly all the city dwellers and finally to the whole country and then comes world. I win Noble prize for spreading happiness all around.
  • Employees feel a complete physical release of tensions and all deadlines are forgotten. The behaviour spreads to the country and i am charged with contempt. I find the scientist who did this research and kill him. I am hanged.
Moreover a research suggests that optimistic (where’s the connection with laughter dude?) people live healthy and longer. Now thats obvious. An optimist would never say “I have got cancer buddy”. Rather he would insist its a kind of a roller ball running round his stomach providing him guffaws. So never would you see him saying he is ill. Thats it. He is healthier for the world.

Anyways fun apart, one point does hit the bull’s eye. A smile costs absolutely nothing. So why not spread it on the face. I just wear it on and live on. Without really caring if it does benefit me or not. But one thing is for sure. It does spread some kind of freshness to one’s mind and to the face. So cut the crap buddy and spread the smile. It does make difference!!!

Talk the universal language !!!

May 10th, 2007 | View Comments

Time: 6:55 am Venue: Koramangala Bus Stop

It was a silent morning one can often confront in Bangalore, just before it bursts into its raw-dusty look. For me though, the silentness was pouring further dubiety in my already crowded mind. Crowded indeed it was, with anxiety n excitement n tons of questions. About to emerge was my first day in employee world; another significant turn in my life. And then there was that sudden roar. Silentness just boomed. In the park behind were few ages’ bubbling with laughter, leaping and clinging each other, everyone trying his best to outdo everyone else. I could see dawn getting outrageous, looking at its lost soundlessness; like a gritty kid who has been denied a toy. Stood in front of me, a laughter club. Frankly speaking, i did find the whole raga rather funny. Each person trying to trouble oneself and catch one’s breath. But little did i know what they were trying, was to change the world.

The incident rose before me just a few days back when i learnt that as i was yawning in my bed at “not-so-dawny” time, there were few people who were celebrating a “World Laughter Day” on 6th May. Thought why not know something about this chapter in “blah blah Day’s” Saga. What i found were many views on how laughter scientifically, spiritually, socially can make a person, and thus the world around him, better. Each view was clear enough to subscribe one to the thoughts.

world laughter dayA question may arise why this sudden gyan on laughter. Even i don’t know the answer. But one thing needs to be marked. Do laugh off some part of your day. In fact, there is something happening deep inside you; fighting to make you better. And there are few who do believe you are thus adding to the world peace. So don’t wonder if you face a bang on first Sunday of May. Just note its those few talking a universal language. Over-ambitiously!!!

Anyways, follows a nice song “Sadho Re” by band Agnee (First Jal, Then Raeth and now this one. I feel Yavu is on its way). A striking song with beautiful lyrics. Why i place it here? I would say it speaks out today’s world’s unrest; which makes this peace-talk further important.

A Wake Up Call!!!

April 24th, 2007 | View Comments
Hats off to the Supreme Court!!! On numerous occasions have i seen the politicians using the law at their own will. Heating and bashing the law suits, molding them and coining as much money as possible. It doesn’t matter even if they stroll over fortunes of thousands. The week saw two decisions taken by SC which do pour water on their motives. Quota dispute and the cauvery row have been the most vexed issues for some time. Cauvery issue though not that significant nation-wide, but i did find the verdict as really interesting. Honest disclosure, am not here to pass my judgment over the issues. But really could not hold myself from lauding the SC’s respective benches.

Quota dispute has been one of the hottest topic of discussions over the last one year. The year saw huge rallies, protests and discussions among “so-called” leaders presenting (or rather forcing) their views. Nebulous were the intentions of the political parties; the restlessness of thousands of the youths following them, with a hope to get some respite. What was rather clear was that the decision cannot and should not be taken with 75 year old data as yardstick. And thats what SC acquainted and slapped Center Government to “determine who is socially and economically backward”. OBC quota gets a stay order, with aspiring students getting a bit of relief. Observation of the bench was “Reservation cannot be permanent and appear to perpetuate backwardness”. Harsh though, but true to the core. What I further fancied was the SC’s verdict for center’s plea to vacate the stay order. Slammed was the government “to stop playing the game first and then framing the rules”. This was a proper slap to the self-centered politicians trying to cash the issue during the elections. Way to go, Division Bench!!!

Cauvery verdict has also seen huge protests in the states of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu post HC decision. SC passed a verdict asking CM’s of the two states to show some “Statesmanship”. A simple reason was stated that “any order passed is bound to trigger protests in the aggrieved states”. Not only have the bench members refrained from deciding the fortune of the debated dispute but also provided an option to confront the nation wide water-scarcity issue. Hope the “Statesmen” do understand the humble intentions.

Both the verdicts are indeed wake-up calls for the politicians. But what i fear is that the problem is still far away from being solved. Center’s not ready to give up the quota issue so easily, eying the elections. IIMs are still not clear on how to carry the admission process forward. Students stand midway, confused, staring at their hazy future. Our politicians are engrossed completely in debating what literally statesmanship is. And We, the mute and deaf people, are busy blabbering and listening to our Mp3′s. Paradoxical Indeed!!!

The Original Bismil Poem !

March 24th, 2006 | View Comments
This is the original poem written by Ram Prasad Bismil, when he was in Jail…

Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamaray dil meiN hai,
dekhna hai zor kitna baazuay qaatil meiN hai
karta nahiN kyuN doosra kuch baat cheet,
dekhta hun maiN jise voh chup teri mehfil meiN hai
ay shaheed-e-mulk-o-millat main teray oopar nisaar,
ab teri himmat ka charcha ghair ki mehfil meiN hai
waqt aanay dey bata deNge tujhe ay aasmaN,
ham abhi se kya batayeN kya hamare dil mein hai
khainch kar layee hai sab ko qatl honay ki ummeed,
aashiqoN ka aaj jumghat koocha-e-qaatil meiN hai

Updated: To my surprise, i came to know that that’s not all that it has to say.

Follows the complete bismil poem:

Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamaare dil mein hai
Dekhna hai zor kitna baazu-e-qaatil mein hai

aye watan Karta nahin kyun doosra kuch baat-cheet
Dekhta hun main jise who chup teri mehfil mein hai
Aye shaheed-e-mulk-o-millat main tere oopar nisaar
Ab teri himmat ka charcha ghair ki mehfil mein hai
Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamaare dil mein hai

Waqt aanay dey bata denge tujhe aye aasman
Hum abhi se kya batayen kya hamare dil mein hai
Khainch kar layee hai sab ko qatl hone ki ummeed
Aashiqon ka aaj jumghat koocha-e-qaatil mein hai
Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamaare dil mein hai

Hai liye hathiyaar dushman taak mein baitha udhar
Aur hum taiyyaar hain seena liye apna idhar

Hum to ghar se nikle hi the baandhkar sar pe kafan
Jaan hatheli par liye lo barh chale hain ye qadam
Zindagi to apni mehmaan maut ki mehfil mein hai
Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamaare dil mein hai

Yuun khadaa maqtal mein qaatil kah rahaa hai baar baar
Kya tamannaa-e-shahaadat bhi kisee ke dil mein hai
Dil mein tuufaanon ki toli aur nason mein inqilaab
Hosh dushman ke udaa denge humein roko na aaj
Duur reh paaye jo humse dam kahaan manzil mein hai

Wo jism bhi kya jism hai jismein na ho khoon-e-junoon
Toofaanon se kya lade jo kashti-e-saahil mein hai

Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamaare dil mein hai.
Dekhna hai zor kitna baazuay qaatil mein hai.
